CUL203YA.GESY.20113 - POST 3 - Surreal Fashion Imagery

Artist: Ricardo Fumanal
Website: www.ricardofumanal.com

Talented illustrator and graphic artist Ricardo Fumanal works with already existing images. He takes his inspiration from the Internet, fashion magazines and films. He redraws the images and applies his surrealistic trademark to them. Ricardo has worked for publications such as Dazed and confused, Flaunt, Wallpaper*, Nylon and Madame Firgro. I love how Ricardo’s drawings are extremely precise, whether it’s his detailed shading or the vibrant colors used in the subjects and fashion accessories, which really make his drawings stand out. More of these stunning images can be viewed at his official website.

CUL203YA.GESY.20113 - POST 2 - Adair Freckled Beauty

Model:
Adair
Photographer: Jeff Tse
Hair & Make up: Patrick Eichler
Stylist: Emily Bishop
Website: www.jefftse.com

In this particular editorial the freckled beauty is seen with an elongated neck a fierce slicked back ponytail, which completes the images. Hairstylist/Makeup artist Patrick Eichler shows off his creativity with the use of bold coloured lips and bright hues of make up. Additionally, Jeff Tse definitely gives viewers a nice sharp representation of summer; the composition and poses are taken beautifully.
Ranging from over the top and fabulous, to subtle and natural, Jeff brings a great deal of variety to his photographs, especially in these images it seems as though Adair is intertwined with summer and revitalized by it. The colours in this editorial are absolutely gorgeous. The images as a whole maintain such effectiveness the lighting adds to the overall summer feeling. Furthermore, this editorial is simple yet powerfully engaging; the use of deep contrast and shadows gives the overall images an edgy summer vibe. The shoot also has that perfect summer feel, without reminding me too much of the cold days to come.

CUL203YA.GESY.20113 - POST 1 - Mert and Marcus for Interview Magazine

Magazine:
Interview
Issue: August 2011
Models: Saskia de Brauw, Marique Schimmel
Hair: Luigi Murenu
Makeup: Diane Kendal
Stylist: Karl Templer
Photographers: Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott
Website: www.interviewmagzine.com

In Mert and Marucs latest editorial for Interview magazine, I feel there is a vague sexual element running through these images where the female seems empowered and the male is acting almost entranced and submissive. The photographs have a very cinematic feel to them especially the way the models are posed and how they’re acting out a part, almost as if they were playing a character in a movie. What makes these images especially captivating is the fact that they are shot in a park; shooting outdoors is particularly difficult, even more so at night when there isn’t sufficient lighting. The colour theme throughout the photos give off a cold atmosphere, and the subtle reflection of the lighting off the damp ground adds to the photos appeal giving it a slight sense of mystery. The blue hue reflected onto the models skin gives them a slightly edgier, bolder look. I’m always on the lookout for Mert and Marcus’ work, as I believe they truly embody the fashion industries standard for creativity and individuality.

Nevertheless In some of the frames, there are such strong indications of emotion, and the photographer has really captured that well. Looking at these images, I feel as if I can feel the very energy/emotion in each moment. The images as a whole maintain such effectiveness the lighting creates drama and a sense of mystery. This editorial is simple yet powerfully engaging, I absolutely love the use of backlighting. When I look at these images I am instantly drawn to Coca Rocha eyes and facial expressions.

"Simplified Product Packaging " CUL502YA Culture - Post 1

Written By Toni

Antrepo Design, redesigned the packaging of several well-known brands with a more simplified approach. In each of the images were presented with the original, simple, and simplest version of the product. It’s interesting to see the amount of thought and planning that goes into product packaging. I prefer the original product; I feel that the simple and simplest versions are too plain. I really admire the way people are getting clever with the ways in which they force us to see or potentially buy their products, with good uses of ambient media which is designed to grab a persons attention. I like to reflect on how simple ideas can change the perspective of things that we look at everyday. I am really fascinated by the way in which the media want us to see things. I'm the kind of person that would try a new product because of its package. The style, color, shape, and material, everything counts. Antrepo’s latest project challenges our perception by presenting the every day consumer a dose of there simplified product packaging.
