In Mert and Marucs latest
editorial for Interview magazine, I feel there is a vague sexual element
running through these images where the female seems empowered and the
male is acting almost entranced and submissive. The
photographs have a very cinematic feel to them especially the way the
models are posed and how they’re acting out a part, almost as if they
were playing a character in a movie. What makes these images especially
captivating is the fact that they are shot in a park; shooting outdoors
is particularly difficult, even more so at night when there isn’t
sufficient lighting. The colour theme throughout the photos give off a
cold atmosphere, and the subtle reflection of the lighting off the damp
ground adds to the photos appeal giving it a slight sense of mystery.
The blue hue reflected onto the models skin gives them a slightly
edgier, bolder look. I’m always on the lookout for Mert and Marcus’
work, as I believe they truly embody the fashion industries standard for
creativity and individuality.
