Fucked Up announces Free Concert May 28th

Written By: Sean
For anyone who missed their 19+ performance during this years Canadian Music Week, one of my favorite diversified local acts and the winners of the 2009 Polaris award, Fucked Up announce a free show in Toronto later this month.

Since it's conception in 2001 Fucked up has gained a reputation that pretty much matches their name and in true rock and roll fashion the band has accomplished more than a few interesting feats. Let's see a list of the top five things they've done that perked my interest:

1. Getting moshing banned from all future MTV Live performances after they and their fans destroyed everything during a performance, adding up to a sum of $2000 in damages (January 2007).
2. Returning to MTV Live in October 2008 and playing in a bathroom (which was also subsequently destroyed by the band and fans).
3. Choosing a name that most publications that featured the band could not write or say aloud.
4. Winning the Polaris award in 2009 for their album The Chemistry of Common Life a genius blending of traditional hardcore with folk.
5. Collaborating both on record and during live performances with an impressive list of non-hardcore artists such as Nelly Furtado, Shenae Grimes of Degrassi, TV On The Radio, Yo La Tengo, Owen Pallett and Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, Tegan & Sara and Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene (just to name a few).

The band is known to be destructive and chaotic yet at the same time political and thoughtful. With that being said where is this free show scheduled to be?
The Toronto Reference Library. Yes you read that right, Fucked Up will be playing a free set with the much calmer Americana group $100 (That's the band name) on May 28th at the Toronto Reference Library. With such an interesting band playing in such an interesting venue you know the night will be full of some kind of shenanigans.

Hardcore mixed with punk, and rock, i own 4 of their LP's.
I just thought it was more than just two things combined to make their style. They're an awesome band!

I highly agree! Though I have to admit the chemistry of the common life if my favourite album. That's the one I'm referencing when I saw folk with hardcore. When I first heard it I wasn't even sure if I was listening to the right band haha.
