Michael Froh to Release 'Herbal Remedies' on 4/20

Written by: Sean
Throughout history musicians who smoke weed have been known to advertise their recreational habits cleverly throughout their art. Whether it's Sublime smoking two joints before they smoke two joints or Kid Cudi preferring his eyes "low" musicians from all over the spectrum have found some way to incorporate the greener view into the mix. Continuing in this tradition, infamous pothead and ex front-man of The Holly Springs Disaster, Michael Froh announces his next solo musical effort.

Previously dubbed as Dear Solace, the new LP will be cleverly titled, "Herbal Remedies" and is set to be released on the ingenious date of April 20th (420), 2010 while a digital version of the cd has been released earlier on April 13th. The digital version of the release has debuted at number 1 in iTunes electronic music section, beating out huge names such as Massive Attack, MSTRKRFT, Four Tet, Hot Chip, and The Postal Service. A feat that shows just what independent Canadian artists are able to accomplish with hard work.

To give our non-marijuana smoking readers some background, April 20th is the day when closet smokers and professional tokers alike get together to smoke copious amounts of marijuana as a sort of homage to the seemingly universal time to light up a spliff, 4:20. Now with that aside, what can one come to expect from the avid Disband hating musician? Teasers released to promote the album show an impressive mix of growth as Froh eases into the groove of solo musicianship, the layering of synth beats and melodies to create the infectious brand of sythpop that Froh's becoming reknown for and influences that could range from 80's synthpop, new wave, hip-hop, rock and dance to name a few.

Froh's website is offering the option to pre-order the new release with various different merch combinations. With lyrics exhibiting Froh's honest and outspoken opinions and feelings, Froh shows his heartfelt side, his distaste for the recent trend of auto-tune abuse in music and his love for the show life. In one of the songs, Froh can be heard repeating the line, "I quit my job today I threw it all away just to get back on stage." Coming from a man known to have an amazing stage presence this is a comforting line for fans to hear, and with new tour dates listed on Froh's myspace, fans from all over can hope to see some of Canada's freshest underground talent.
