Lately I’ve put a hold on my usual searching through extremely obscure genres and nestled myself nicely into some more entry-level obscurity genres. As a result of this I’ve found myself listening to a decent amount of music from my choice for today’s local spotlight, Titan.Hailing from none other than Toronto, Titan is the answer to the prayers of people like me who are fans of real screamo (aka skramz) and hate the widespread misconception that bands like Alesana and Underoath are screamo. Following in the footsteps of other Canadian screamo acts such as Union of Uranus and One Eyed God Prophecy, Titan’s blend of hardcore punk influences, spastic intensity and experimental dissonance is something true skramz fans will fall in love with instantly. I stumbled across Titan after I had gotten a hold of a split they did with German screamo revivalists June Paik and I was genuinely surprised to learn that they are from Canada, let alone Toronto.
Building a name for themselves as a ferocious musical onslaught, the band has established a fan base in underground European screamo circles (on top of their North American fan base), was featured on the Metalblade Showcase at CMW this year and was featured on aux.tv’s Top Ten Hardcore & Metal Albums of 2009 list. Though their music might be hard to obtain for some they have songs available for listening on their myspace, I highly recommend checking this band out if you like your music chaotic and fast and the band has some tour dates posted for the future so if you’re in the GTA I suggest trying to make it out to show for an intense experience.
Check out Titan Here.
